If the normal shutdown process of a node takes longer than 23 seconds, the node will undergo a planned takeover. This is because the Cluster Liveliness and Availability Monitor (CLAM) has not been notified that the node has shutdown within the time allotted to determine if a node is responsive or not. When this occurs, and the node is in a SAN cluster, CLAM will initiate the required recovery process to ensure that the LUNs on that node are available to any host attached to the cluster. Because the node was already under a shutdown process, the addition of a takeover is benign and will not cause any complication in cluster operations. If the cluster is a NAS-only cluster, where SAN is not present, this will not occur.
